Established in 1996 with the simple aim of offering victims of crime the opportunity to engage in a restorative intervention with the person responsible. The key principals, ethos and vision our organisation was founded on are still at the heart of the work we undertake today.
Voluntary, Impartial, and Supportive
From our initial starting point as a small project working in partnership with the Sheffield Probation Service Remedi have expanded significantly across the UK
We work in partnership with the 8 Youth Offending Teams and the Offices of the Police and Crime Commissioner in South Yorkshire, Humberside, West Midlands, Greater Manchester, Derbyshire, Cumbria and Cheshire. In addition, we are contracted nationally by the Victim Support Homicide Service to provide Restorative Justice in case of murder, manslaughter and death by dangerous driving.
Remedi are one of the UK’s leading facilitators of restorative justice services across the youth and adult criminal justice arena.
Since 2005 Remedi have also been a registered Restorative Justice training provider with the Restorative Justice Council (RJC). We pride ourselves on the bespoke approach we take to training in order to ensure the purchasing agency receives the most appropriate package for them.
In 2015 Remedi secured our first contract to provide victim services across the County of Derbyshire. We take a completely needs focused approach to this work providing both emotional and practical support for victims of crime.
We also have staff based within prisons and schools addressing anti- social behaviour, deliver mentor schemes, Got Your Back(Youth Support) CEASE programme(DV) to young people, hate crime and extremism projects.
How it fits in the Hub
Remedi have been commissioned by the PCC for the next 3 years, to deliver RJ across the West Midlands and ensure that victims of all crime types* are offered this opportunity.
Remedi work in partnership with WMP RJ Team and Pioneer Housing under the WM RJ Hub to ensure that all those affected by ASB and Crime can access a Restorative intervention to address the issues and offences.
Remedi take crime cases only that have had an outcome of a community or custodial sentence, Community Resolutions or Conditional Cautions that have taken place in the West Midlands from Shoplifting to Murder.
*SV/DV cases will only be victim initiated only
A BBC series, ‘Face the Consequences’ features an episode where a man who accidentally killed a stranger after throwing a punch meets two people who like a rowdy night out, but will his story change their ways?
In the last 6 months since Remedi went live taking cases we have had:
